Today, NELL participant Kārlis Baltputns had the opportunity to take part in the panel discussion "Human and Environment Interaction: Common Benefits and Opportunities for Society" organized by Latvenergo AS and SIA “Latvijas Vēja Parki,” alongside State Secretaries Līga Kurevska from the Ministry of Climate and Energy and Jānis Urtāns, the head of "Latvijas Vēja Parki."
➤ The discussion emphasized the significant importance of timely and purposeful public engagement in the successful development of wind energy.
➤ Additionally, the societal benefits from the development of wind energy are not limited to its impact on electricity prices, which enhances production competitiveness. They also manifest as increased tax revenues, a catalyst for innovation and the development of related industries, and the creation of jobs for highly qualified specialists. However, to fully capitalize on this opportunity, a larger number of young engineers is needed, especially in the energy sector!
➤ Moreover, in addition to the overall national-scale socioeconomic benefits, it is only fair that residents living near wind farms and the involved municipalities also receive direct financial or otherwise implemented compensation. Therefore, it was a pleasure to hear about the Ministry of Climate and Energy's specific plans regarding this issue.
Thank you to Andris Siksns from AS "Latvenergo" for excellently leading the conference!
